Hey Jeff, good post on Second Life. I am a big believer in virtual worlds, animation and graphically-rich environments and their ability to engage users with interaction, choice and freedom. While most of the attention resides in MMORPGs or MMORPG lites, like a Second Life, there is also a great way for corporate organizations to draft off of the same trends. Our Company, Oddcast, for example, has developed a speaking avatar platform that allows corporations and small merchants to implement virtual marketeers and salespeople on their site to help promote products/services, differentiate listings, navigate traffic to desired locations and ultimately, to increase conversions. Everyone talks about online marketing and sophisticated commerce engines, but without the ability to optimize conversions, these costs are hard to justify. Avatars, online identities and interaction should not only be a part of game environments, but the business environment, as well. It would be great to find time to muse more on this topic.
